PowerShot G12 offers a flexible focal length of 28mm wide-angle and 5x optical zooming capabilities. Integrated with a high-effective optical Image Stabilizer to provide 4-step optimal compensation for both vertical and horizontal camera shakes with gyroscopic sensor, and lens-shift technology, reducing blur caused by camera shake, sharp images can be captured even in low-light conditions without using a tripod.

Built-in HS SYSTEM integrates DIGIC 4's almighty speed data processing power and 10-megapixel High Sensitivity image sensor, which improves the signal-to-noise ratio dramatically and makes light-gathering capability stronger than ever. Even if shooting at low light situation, shaking due to long exposure setting can be reduced greatly; as a result, sharp and clear images can be captured without using a tripod. HS SYSTEM also enables a greater dynamic range. Fine and detailed images can also be captured even scenes with great differences in contrast by retaining details at both shadow and highlighted area.

A 2.8-inch PureColor II VA vari-angle LCD monitor is provided for more flexible shooting. With 461k-dot high resolution, this monitor is designed with a flip-out window that allows angle adjustments even shooting vertically or using a tripod. Its angle flexibility enables users to shoot over head, at knee level or from any unusual perspectives for easy framing. Upgraded Accessories Capacity to Enhance Professional Shooting Experience
Designed to suit the needs of different shooting subjects, PowerShot G12 is designed with a Hot Shoe to support a series of external EOS Speedlites and studio flash units for different lighting effects. A new Filter Adapter FA-DC58B is made to compliment any 58mm diameter filter, and to attach tightly to the lens barrel ring and move along with the lens while zooming. This can prevent wide-angle vignetting and enhances the portability of its body. With the aid of the PL-C Polarizing Filter, contrast of subjects will be enhanced with minimized reflections, enhancing the color blue and green with fuller saturation, best suited for shooting vivid blue skies, tranquil seas and greenery. A Telephoto Conversion Lens (1.4x) TC-DC58D converts the focal length by 1.4 magnification and improves the zoom limit to 196mm when attached.

Enhanced Scene Detection Technology facilitates users to get perfect pictures in all conditions. It intelligently detects portrait, distance, light source, color temperature and moving subjects for their optimum settings. Focus and exposure, as well as white balance, ISO settings and dynamic range can be adjusted automatically. In the scenes of bright, backlit or blue skies, this technology can automatically capture the best focus, exposure, white balance, ISO settings and dynamic range. Six additional scenes are added to PowerShot G12 to target at situations with spotlights and strong facial shadows. When portrait with strong facial shadow is detected, flash and exposure can be calculated automatically by Face Detection Technology, ensuring to capture the natural skin tone. The Wink and Smile Self-Timer are able to detect facial expressions like blinked eye or smile as a signal for shutter release.
